TORONTO (July 21-28, 2019 & August 4th – 11th, 2019)
**Please note our August 4-11 program is now at capacity**
Our programs in Toronto are hosted by Islington United Church, who also hosts GO’s ministry and office. Islington United church is in Toronto’s neighbourhood of Etobicoke. Islington’s mission is, to be an open, friendly and caring church where people of all ages are invited to discover, explore and develop their spirituality in Christ’s name.
Islington United is in the heart of Islington Village, a diverse and active community. Toronto has a population of 2.6 million people and offers such diverse opportunities and challenges for service and learning. The majority of time spent at a Toronto program is in the west end of the city in Etobicoke, but there are plenty of opportunities for exploring the rest of the city and subway throughout the 11 days!
Some programs we work with in Toronto are:
Mabelle Food Program:
Mabelle Food Program operates in conjunction with the Toronto Daily Bread Food Bank and Islington United to provide nutritious food packages to low income households in our local community.
Christian Resource Centre: Building Lives. Creating Community. Together.
CRC is a welcoming place where people work together effectively to meet their basic needs, achieve personal growth and help create an inclusive and cohesive community. The work CRC does is about helping people meet their basic needs for food, clothing and shelter. The work is also about social justice – working with others to advocate for changes to policies, practices, and institutions that result in people being marginalized.
Youth Without Shelter: Ending homelessness… one youth at a time, one step at a time.
Youth Without Shelter (YWS) is an emergency residence and referral agency serving homeless youth. YWS is dedicated to providing shelter and support programs for homeless youth ages 16-24. YWS provides an independent shelter, committed to diverse client focused services, in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. YWS programs enable youth to live responsibly and independently in society.
The Giving Garden is a project of The Green Team at Islington United Church. The community garden is on site, and the produce goes to the Mabelle Food Program offering fresh, healthy, locally grown veggies to the participants.
